The late Anthony Bordain said- “Travel changes you. As you move through this life and this world you change things slightly, you leave marks behind, however small. And in return, life – and travel – leaves marks on you. Most of the time, those marks – on your body or your heart – are beautiful.
In the late spring of 1997 my husband and I traveled to England and during that trip- marks were left on my heart. I saw so many beautiful and different ways of doing everyday life-. From the delicate lace curtains that I saw hanging in English cottage windows- to the warm down comforters wrapped in crisp duvet covers. I wanted to come back to my home and emulate everything.
One of the favorite things that I remember from that trip was the “ in-room tea services” that were in every bed and breakfast and hotel we stayed in. England can be a little chilly in May and it was so wonderful to snuggle up in a warm bed and listen to the kettle heat our water while we waited for morning tea.
It is so easy to add a tea service to your bedroom. You probably have many of the items already, but if you don’t. Most things can be found at garage sales and thrift stores.
I used a small folding table as my base and added a pretty table cloth. Next, I added a tray to hold everything. You’ll need a teapot, a warming kettle, fresh water, teacups, an assortment of tea or instant coffee. And if you like, cream and sugar. I love that you can get creamers like this a the grocery store now.
In the evenings, I like to fix a nice pot of lavender and chamomile tea to drink before bedtime and I enjoy starting the morning with a good Darjeeling or Earl Grey.
Simple setups like this tea service- make tea time ritual effortless, and having tea in bed while reading a good book makes living a beautiful life easy.
